Thanks to everyone who came out to the House of Blues last night for making truly perfect day for us. Here’s a few photos of our first HOB experience.

Weekly Yearly 2011

All though we now live a bi-county lifestyle. (some of us in Los Angeles, and some in Orange County) we found out this afternoon that in OC Weekly’s annual ‘Best Of’ edition, we’ve been named Best New Band. Our OC friends can pick up a copy for free just about anywhere, and our L.A. friends can read the article and the issue here :

thank you OC Weekly for keeping your eyes open. Congratulations to our dear friends in the neighborhood Kiev for best 3d show, Jeramiah Red for best band named after a beer, and Cosmonauts for best punk band! Let’s continue to get some culture up in this bitch!

A Cardboard Pallisade, A Pocket-change Brigade

To our delighted surprise, we discovered yesterday that CreatiffMotiff made a beautiful noir music video for our song ‘Riverside’. The video was created using footage from 33 collaborators from HitRecord.org. if you don’t know about hitRECord, it’s an open source art community and production company headed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt (whom you will catch a few glimpses of in the video.) Thanks for the love creatiffmotiff et all.!

An Open Letter To The RIAA

Dear RIAA,
Thank you so much for ensuring that no one ever be allowed to steal our music. We discovered recently that many of our fans have been illegally sharing our music, and evangelizing in our name. Our fans are criminals! We find this deeply disturbing! What heinous dangers might they be imposing on our society as we speak? As an independent band, we shouldn’t be legitimately acknowledged until we have indebted ourselves to the corporate leeching of a record label. Record labels know much better than fans when it comes to art. Hopefully, with your help, no one will ever hear our music at all!

Please, do everything in your power to arrest these heathens. If you fail to smite this indecency in due time, we fear that within a year or more these unlawful hoodlums may create a massive uprising in our demographics- perhaps even extend our exposure on such a massive scale that we in turn would be incapable of thwarting our own popularity. If such a case arises, our art wouldn’t be vindicated by traditional commercial success, but rather a thriving testament to the artful intelligence of Americans. As a result, American citizens might begin to think for themselves rather than listen to the select and narrow gamut of music MTV provides them. In time, the world elsewhere might even begin to respect American’s ability to appreciate art, diminishing our well earned cultural stance as ignorant brutes to mere artsy sissies.

Duly, we lean upon you to recognize the utmost urgency of this circumstance as a threat to our national security, and wholeheartedly thank you for refusing to even consider revising our antiquated copyright laws in respect to the present day music industry. Your unwavering stubbornness and commitment to bureaucracy is truly astounding.

Most insistantly,

May

Sideways and Otherways

In childhood, I aspired to be a sketch comedian. In high school I did standup all over the greater LA area. I have vague memories of fuzzy monologues about human cheese and euthanasia. Nothing even I found of worth remembering in detail. Those dreams were put to bed by an amazing opportunity that was hindered by the 9/11 tragedy. Not the warmest audience that 9/11 crowd… and not very welcoming of ‘too soon’ jokes. It was for the best. My passions lie elsewhere now. But I am titillated to say that we will be playing a rare and brief acoustic set at Upright Citizens Brigade August 14th for the live Grand Theft Audio stream. Come down to UCB, have a few laugh (some at the comics, and some at our expense). Either way come down and share in the fun. You can buy reserved tickets here: http://losangeles.ucbtheatre.com/shows/2790
And don’t forget, we’re playing at The Mint, los Angeles Aug. 10th!

When in Rome…

Well, I saw a man attempt to eat an entire Costco jar of Mayo this week. There seems to be more puking than eating in that process. Go figure. We also played a rare acoustic set (unicycle sans cyclophone, pots and childrens toys et all) at a comedy show slash birthday party; it was the amuse-bouche for the MM&C virgin. Lesson: unfunny things can open up for funny things. We played alongside a Korea Town pool where I sat with my feet dangling in the water as a man floated his belly atop the water in front of us. All in all it was very david-lynchian…

Book of No

New show dates!
Well. One song left to write (left to right? [right to write?]) and four to arrange. Then it’s off to the studio again for what will be our sophomore album (still as yet untitled, all though the outcry of fans have seemed pretty attached to ‘Poop‘). We have a very loose goal for a March release. We’ll see how well we stick to it.

All that aside, Brian Scott assures me the Your Body video is making great progress. Fingers crossed.

Many thanks to John Penny for taking on this website as his own personal project! It’s good to have friends.

Merry Apocalypse Everybody!

Good to see we have lived through another one. God must really not like us. Anyhoo. It’s a terribly exciting time for May McDonough & Co.! We’ve got a couple great gigs coming up in L.A., an incredible stop motion music video in production, (which you can see a few photos of here: http://twitpic.com/photos/MayMcDonoughCo) and this coming Thursday pick up a copy of OC Weeky or find it online. We will have a nice little interview in there.

People keep asking us what’s going on with the Bullyboywithaglasseye EP. Well, here’s the scoop. As I once mentioned, the plan was to make a 4 song lo-fi d.i.y. EP self-engineered and self-produced from home on tape. Unfortunately my recording rig is in desperate need of repair, so until I get around to that we’re going to continue working on new music and prepping up for the next full length. We’re well on our way. In the meantime you can hear some of our new stuff at our shows!
